The Role of the Teacher

 The role of the teacher

According to (Education, 2017) over time, society has undergone enormous changes that have influenced the way we do all things. These changes have been enormously important in the advancement of education. We must remember those times of the past when the classes were dictated with a strongly traditional approach. The teacher played an authoritative role in both teaching procedures and the content for academic instruction. This tendency neglected the opinion of students and inhibited them from the opportunity to be main actors in the learning process (Lanier, 1997). The current reality is that although it still has many details that must be polished, the educational system has adopted innovative teaching methodology and techniques in which the role of the teacher has changed to being the experienced professional who guides their students on the path of their academic training, helping them find the information that is more adequate to develop all their skills and to instruct them step by step for their future . In this way we can appreciate the role of the student as an active participant who takes responsibility for their own learning.

In Learner-centered teaching the activities and customs that were maintained within the classroom must be replaced by new activities that expose students to relate them directly to the teaching-learning process. In such a way that they should be assigned autonomous learning tasks so that they can be independent when they acquire knowledge. Group tasks to develop social skills and cooperative work. The teacher must be an active and creative creator of authentic material for giving the students better opportunities to develop all their skills (Ministry of Education, 2017). In addition, it is extremely important that students begin to generate their own ideas, so a good option is to allow them to meditate on what they have learned in class and let them get their own feedback highlighting what they consider most important (Education, 2017). All these activities must be meticulously supervised and guided by the teacher so that they are carried out successfully according to the objectives of the class.

Nowadays, it can safely be said that most students are still being passive in the classroom. This occurs due to the fact that teachers are being lecturers rather than knowledge facilitators. Therefore, in EFL classroom, we think that a Task-Based Language Learning approach would suit better in our context. As Weimer (2013) stated, to use this approach, there are some principles that must be followed. For instance, teachers should avoid doing the tasks for the students; this should be rather the exception than the rule. At the end, students will generate their own ideas about a specific topic, and they will work collaboratively in groups and also, they will learn from each other. Teachers should give more value to group work Another essential principle is the fact that the instructional design must be carefully done so that it carefully and successfully carries out the class. Finally, it is also important to always do follow-up activities so that students can settle in with the new knowledge.

In conclusion, in order to be better teachers, it is also necessary to be managers, facilitators. These roles working alongside the task-based language learning approach will create students that can work autonomously and are capable of learning not only from the teacher but from themselves too.
