The Balance of Power
The balance of power in education is a topic that
encompasses and seeks balance within the classroom. This means that both
students and teachers can work together to develop a correct teaching-learning
process. The way students feel is an important key to the development
of learning objectives, for example, if students feel motivated then the
classroom environment will be correct for their learning, on the
contrary, if students do not They are motivated enough to acquire knowledge,
this is something negative since in this way educational progress is
interrupted. The teacher's attitude is also an important factor, the key is communication.
Without communication, students and teachers cannot have a good exchange of
knowledge.
What
Needs to Change and Has not: Teacher Control
According
to John, W, and Sons (2013). A series of unknowns is shown according to the person who is in charge of the schedules, rules, and regulations within
the classroom, this can be summarized as the authority in charge according to
Bunce (2009) will always be a teacher. But the way he gives us to
understand this is that all the responsibility always falls on the teacher and
although it is true in part, student collaboration is also needed to maintain
an orderly environment.
In the same way, the faculty in most cases is
in charge of regulating the rules and laws to be fulfilled in a broader sense,
one of the tools that facilitates control within the classroom and within the
entire learning period is the syllable. The syllable is a powerful tool
that helps to consider the true educational needs and all the objectives to be
fulfilled throughout the course.
Another important point is how a 'good' teacher can be
recognized in the classroom. Over time there is still a debate on how the
correct behavior of a teacher would be, but nevertheless one of the most named
characteristics is that of patience and respect. This means that humanity
prevails first, understanding that teachers are not perfect and that they also
have mistaken but they try to be better every day. Vulnerabilities exist in all
human beings, but a teacher who works to be a better person and can teach with
the heart is undoubtedly a 'good' teacher.
Changing the Balance of Power
Learner-centered explains that power is shared between
teachers and students, this is not transferred at all to the whole class. The
ultimate goal is that students improve their learning skills, so they can teach
themselves. The process to become an independent learner is a large and gradual
procedure. This does not mean that teacher is less used by students, college
students begin being depended on the learner, but with the time they become to more
independently.
Redistributing Power: Activities and Assignments
In the beginning, some students selected easy
assignments or the one that they like, but all of the choice the correct
assignment of their preferences. Students have two thoughts about these
approaches. The first one is that teacher wants to give chances, and the second
is that s/he does not want any blame for a bad grade. It is possible to give
more controllable time for projects with experienced students, this is used
especially for larger projects. There is a possibility to let students make
decisions
about the weight of their assignments.
